    In their final home meet of the season, the No. 22 Illinois Fighting Illini host the Illinois State Redbirds, the UIC Flames and the Northern Illinois Huskies for the annual State of Illinois Classic.

    22 ranked Kent State gymnastics team looks to tally another victory in their second meet of the season. The Golden Flashes will host Northern Illinois Friday, January 19 at 7 p.m. In the M.A.C.

    Center for the first Mid-American Conference meet for both teams. This will be the second home meet for Kent State in a six-day span to start the regular season and will be a Gold Rush with fans encouraged to wear their best gold Kent State gear. The Flashes (1-0) earned a 195.050-178.875 win over Centenary on Sunday, hitting the 195.000 mark in a season-opener for the first time since 2004. The best events for the flashes are bars in which they rank no. 10 in the nation and first in the MAC (49.050) as well as floor where they rank no. 12 in the nation and first in the MAC (49.050).

    They also rank third in the MAC on beam (48.400). LAST TIME OUT Kent State started the season off with a decisive win over Centenary College 195.050 to 178.875 on Sunday at the M.A.C Center to open up the season. The Golden Flashes won all four events as a team with strong individual performances.

    Senior earned MAC Gymnast of the Week honors after winning the all-around with a score of 39.375. Stypinski took first place on bars (9.900), beam (9.875) and floor (9.900) in addition to third place on vault (9.700). Floor and bars were strong events for the Flashes with a 49.050 team score in each event.

    On floor, Stypinski led all with a 9.900 followed by freshman (9.850), sophomore (9.800), junior (9.775) and freshman (9.725). On bars, Stypinski finished in first place with a 9.900 followed by senior with a 9.875.

    Other notable performers were senior (9.825), and junior (9.800). Stypinski took the top score on beam with a 9.875 with Marrero and junior tying for second with a score of 9.725.

The teams have split the last six matchups with Northern Illinois winning both meetings a year ago.

    In their last meeting during last season, the Flashes came up just short on a score of 194.425-194.375. Despite the loss the flashes had five gymnasts post their best scores on beam for the season with Stypinski leading all (9.925). Had her career high on beam with a score of 9.850.
